Mariah's Story

Mariah Stained Glass HuskySouthern Siberian Rescue is nothing but blessed to have met Mariah. She is one special Girl that will live in our hearts forever. Mariah contacted us in late 2003, at 8 years of age. She sent us a very nice note about how she loves Siberians, wants to own 14 Siberians when she grows up and how much she enjoys our website. SSR Co-Founder Cathy was so touched by her letter when we received it in the mail that she took the time to send Mariah a Nanook Beanie Baby, the book Togo and some stickers with a note thanking her for her letter and her picture. Not long after that, Cathy went to the mailbox to find another note from Mariah. It read as follows:

Dear Southern S.R.,
I learned a new way to draw huskies! Thanks for the cool husky stuff! I love it! I started my own husky scrapbook and wrote about you in it. I put your husky pictures in it too.
From, Mariah
P.S. Maybe we could be pen pals!
P.S.S. I got a horse! Her name is Dolly. See back (with an arrow of course)
I collected $100.00 from my family and friends for your rescue. Please write back including your name(s) in your letter!!!

Well, sure enough, enclosed was a money order for $100, made payable to SSR. She sent us a picture of her too - on the back it says:
Mariah W****, Grade: 3, Age: 9, This is me all dressed up!

There in started a wonderful relationship with a simply charming young Lady with a passion for Siberian Huskies. Miss Mariah is too precious to put into words and has a gift for drawing Siberians. Please do look at her work under Mariah’s Drawings.

We received a letter from Mariah’s parents, which follows:

Dear Southern Siberian Rescue,
Thank you for taking an interest in our daughter, Mariah. She so loves the Siberian Husky breed and plans to have 14 of her own one day. (After becoming a vet so she can afford them and she's pleased to think how she'll save on her vet bills!)
Thanks for keeping a young girl dreaming and planning for her future.
She spent the last two months collecting money for your rescue and reached her goal of $100.00.
We are so proud of her, thank you for connecting with her.
Sincerely,
Scott and Pamela W****

Scott and Pam can be nothing but proud of Mariah. Over the years we continue to correspond with Miss Mariah, continue to send her Siberian birthday presents and Christmas gifts and she continues to raise monies for our foster dogs. Miss Mariah is so special that we named one of our foster dogs after her. Mariah has many talents and interests - singing, art, piano and DOGS. Dogs, Dogs, Dogs, appear to be where her heart lies and one day she wants to run Siberians in the Junior Iditarod. That will be the day that I, Dawne, will be there to see Mariah’s dream come true.

So with all this being said, please open your arms to those that have a passion and support them in their endeavors and meet new friends and embrace them, young or old. The rewards you receive are far greater than anything you can achieve in life. Mariah Rules and she will always hold a special place in all of our hearts.

Thank you Mariah for all that you have done for Southern Siberian Rescue. WE LOVE YOU!

Coming Soon (This Week!)

Much to our surprise, we had the pleasure of meeting Miss Mariah in the summer of June 2004. Mariah lives in WI and her family was vacationing and coming through NC so we were able to meet Mariah and what a joyous Sunday morning that was. Let me tell you, if this Girl was not special enough via the USPS, she is more than fabulous and sweet in person. Mariah emerged from the family camping trailer and all I could do is hug her, holding back my trembling and tears of joy! She presented us with a dual-headed wolf sculpture, which she told her Mom she had to buy for us, and to this day, it sits on the windowsill in my kitchen as a reminder of the spectacular Mariah.

We had the foster dogs up with the personal dogs outside when Mariah’s family arrived and all Mariah could say when she walked on the back deck is "WWWOOOWWW." Her Mom, Pam, took pictures of her with all of our personal dogs and then we put them inside so she could meet the foster dogs and goodness knows, Miss Mariah knew all the foster dogs by name. Shawn brought Aries out to show her how to put a harness on a dog - I do believe that Aries is/was Mariah's favorite dog, though she loved on all of them as though she's known them forever. We were hoping to have the cart here to hook up dogs for her to ride but unfortunately that never happened.

This amazing child also presented us with yet another $100.00 donation to Southern Siberian Rescue. My hands trembled as I looked inside because this Girl is just overwhelming with her love, passion and dedication at such a young age - and to be doing so much for SSR.

We gave her flyers of all the existing foster dogs and you would have thought that we gave her gold. I also gave her the Phoenix ornament that Brenna passed on and she seemed thrilled. Thank you Brenna!
