About Windsor - NEW

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • Housetrained: Yes

Windsor's independence and intelligence are obvious right from the start, but she loves to cuddle and snuggle when she's not parked in front of a door scheming how she might open it! She would prefer not to be closed in, but is a good girl in her crate once she's there. She was a little too thirsty after her long ride home from the shelter and wasn't able to make it outside quickly enough to relieve herself but that has been her only indoor accident and she happily trots outside on schedule to take care of her business now that she's settling into her foster home. Windsor is a black and white female with blue eyes. She weighs about 48 lbs. and her guestimated DOB is December 2005. If you're looking for a 'classic' Siberian, Windsor is the girl for you!

Windsor requires a very secure fence to be outside unsupervised. She was quite proud that she was able to show the shelter director a weak spot in his fence during her visit. She stayed close, but caused the staff a bit of panic until safely retrieved! She respects and has been trustworthy with the hot wired fence at her foster home. A secure front door is a must too. She's not yet plotted an effective means for opening the locked latch storm door in her foster home, but one would clearly gather this is on her agenda from the way she studies it!

In spite of a bit of wander lust, Windsor is a relatively calm girl. She might poke her nose in an open trash can in the house, but is easily called off. She's most happy to find a comfy spot to snooze near her person when inside. Windsor gets along with other dogs very nicely and ignored the kitten swatting at her from the cat condo by the entry door when she went for her vet check. Not a guarantee that she'd get along with cats, but encouraging.

Windsor does pull hard on her leash. The shelter director (former Siberian Dad) worked with her a lot on this and her foster mom will continue her training. She is a quick study and had also learned "sit" before departing the shelter. She likes to "sit" leaned right up against her person's legs. It's very sweet. Windsor can be a bit defensive with men and will occasionally nip at air if uncomfortable with their movements or action, but nothing resembling frank aggression. She hasn't done this with her foster mom. We'll be taking advantage of every opportunity for her to interact and socialize with kind dog loving men while she's in the program. She can also be a little mouthy when rolling about getting petted. No intent to bite, just mouth wide open and moving quickly. For this reason, it's probably better she not reside with very small or young children.

Windsor has a lovely voice and will join her Siberian siblings outside in group howls from her crate indoors. She also often gives a hearty "WOO WOO" to her person just to say how happy she is. A very pretty and delightful girl who would love a chance to sing her way into your heart!
