About Lena

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • General Color: Black with White
  • Housetrained: Yes

SSR is pleased to announce that we are partnering with Nash Correctional Institution and are proudly participating in their 'A New Leash On Life' prison training program. Lena is one of our foster dogs that completed training and she graduated on February 5, 2009. During her time at Nash, Lena learned sit, shake with both paws, down and rollover. She had fun with the agility course, which includes walking the bench, climbing an A-Frame, jumping through a tire, placing on a pedestal and then doing her sit, shakes and down.

Name: Lena
Sex: Female
Approx. DOB: September 2007
Weight: Approx. 55 lbs.
Coat Color: Black and White
Eye Color: Bi-eyed, one blue and one brown. Lena does have uveitus, which is an inflammation that affects the front or anterior part of the eye called the uvea, which is the dark tissue of the eye that contains blood vessels. Causes can be infections from viruses, parasites, bacteria or rickettsia. Her vision is not impaired by this.
Energy Level: Lena is pretty energized and has opened up tremendously since entering our program. She absolutely loves to run and play with her foster siblings. She does settle down nicely when inside, however.
Personality: Lena came to us very scared and skittish but she is over that now. She is a hoot and quite a happy girl. She is always happy to see you, loves attention, pets and loving and will lean into your leg as long as you allow her. She enjoys chewing on Nylabones and other toys but still does need some correction on non-approved chewing items. She is very attentive and easily corrected. She no doubt wants to please her people. Lena has a come a long way in our program and has learned that living in a house with a pack is a good thing. She would enjoy an active family that like to hike, run or jog.
Good with Dogs: Lena does well with other dogs and will make a great companion and playmate.
Good with Cats: Lena does display a high prey drive and probably is not a good choice for a home with cats. She will watch birds and other small things that move for hours, waiting for the chance to pounce.
Good with Children: Now that Lena has come out of her shell, she will probably enjoy children to play with but she is rather energized and may knock over a toddler so a home with children 5 years and older will be better for her.
Housetrained: Yes.
Crate Trained: Lena does great in her crate and actually enjoys taking chew toys in for some quiet time. With her chewing past, it will be a good idea to crate her if you're gone until you know you can trust her.
Rides Well in Car: Yes
Leash Trained: Lena does not pull much on leash but does dart back and forth some.
Basic Obedience: Lena has graduated from our prison trainig program and knows sit, down and shake.
